After leaving
Hong Kong Legal Aid in 1992, Pam established her own practice,
Pam Baker & Co. Over the years, her firm attracted many young
and enthusiastic lawyers from Australia, the United States, Canada
and England. All volunteered their time and skills to join Pam
in her fight against what they considered grave injustice perpetrated
against people who had no one to represent them. Pam never actively
sought or recruited their services. The volunteers, lawyers,
clerks and interpreters just came, inspired by stories of the
tireless efforts of the now 60-something years old, chain-smoking,
no-nonsense lawyer.
Pam
was always adamant about children’s education. In this
regard, she memorably reflected that “childhood goes by
so fast, no opportunity should be missed”. Pam sadly
passed away on 24 April 2002. Further details about her remarkable
life
are available in the following links:

Hong Kong lawyer who fought for rights of Vietnamese refugees”
